Future Of Popular Motorcycle Complex Secured
Below is the press release from the Minister for Sport and Recreation
Surf Coast's McAdam Park Motorcycling Complex will continue to be an important sporting facility for many years to
come after the Minister for Sport James Merlino announced the Brumby Labor Government would commit $1.27 million to
the project.
Mr Merlino said McAdam Park was a renowned international and national motorcycling facility and the Victorian
Government was proud of its involvement to keep it that way.
"I'm pleased to be here today to confirm an overall Victorian Government commitment of $1.27 million to secure the
future of this terrific sporting facility," Mr Merlino said.
"Our Government is proud to support this project and delighted that Surf Coast Shire, the City of Greater Geelong,
Motorcycle Australia and various motorcycle clubs have also committed funding towards the acquisition of McAdam Park."
Mr Merlino said securing the funding for the site was an important first step, and the Government would continue
working with all parties in the months ahead to ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility.
"There's no doubt this is an important community asset and the Victorian Government is delighted to play a leading
role in helping to secure its future for the people of Geelong," he said.
Member for South Barwon Michael Crutchfield said McAdam Park hosted international, national and state motorcycling
events, which help to deliver significant economic benefits to the region.
"As well as a venue for major and community events, McAdam Park also offers new or young motorcycle riders with a safe
place to enjoy the sport they love," Mr Crutchfield said.
"McAdam Park also plays an important role in helping these riders to gain the necessary skills associated with riding
recreational motorcycles in a safe and socially responsible way.
"Our Government will now work with all the parties concerned to ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility.
"The campaign to save McAdam Park has involved not only this government, councils, clubs, and the wider community,
but also many local businesses who have financially supported this venue through fundraising activities and they
should all be congratulated."

The "BIG PICTURE" Wall
Sporting Motorcycle Club.
McAdam Park, Barrabool, Australia.
Since 1932
Join the fight to save Barrabool, one of Australia's iconic
Motocross Tracks!
Is McAdam Park, Barrabool on the verge of extinction?! No way, not if we can help
it! Please help us! Buy your "Bit of Barrabool" and help us secure McAdam Park,
and our future, forever! Get your name on the Wall. Be a part of the "BIG PICTURE"!
Throughout our history we have run National Motocross events that have "set the
standard", and we want to keep on doing them! Our club is a typical Motorcycle club
like many others, with a dedicated band of members. We cater for all facets of off-road
motorcycle sports and recreation riding, and over the years many thousands of dirt
bike fans have joined the Sporting Motorcycle Club. We need everyones help to Save
Barrabool.
With the "BIG PICTURE" Wall we can do it!
We have been so fortunate in the last 42 years, as we have had the use of the most
beautiful and picturesque piece of land a motorcycle park could ever wish for! But
now it is up for sale! And we need money. Lots of money! One million dollars! And
that's just the beginning! Basically, $1M will only buy us the small patch of dirt
the MX track is on, but it will secure our immediate future. The property is 300
acres, but is being divided into smaller blocks, and ideally we need to somehow
acquire it all, so we can avoid being crowded out and have "room to breathe" for
the long term future.
What is the "BIG PICTURE"?
The "BIG PICTURE" is many things. It is a wall featuring the McAdam Park
logo, made up of 10,000 tiles, which you can buy and get your name inscribed on
forever! It is all about Saving Barrabool; our home track for the last 42 years.
It is our means of realising our visions for the future. It is your chance to prevent
one of Australia's iconic tracks being lost forever! It is so the Sporting Motorcycle
Club can achieve the seemingly impossible task of raising $1M, (and more!) so we
can achieve our ultimate goals!
WHO CAN HELP?
-
If you have been to Barrabool, we know you will want to help. If you haven't, just
imagine motocross heaven, and then you will want to help as well!
-
If you are part of the Motocross Industry, then you can help.
-
If you have family and friends who want to help you Save Barrabool, then they can
help too!
HOW DO I HELP?
There are 2 ways you can help;
1. Sponsor a tile on the "BIG PICTURE" Wall. Only $100 / $125 / $150 + GST
(Australian dollars)
Individuals; Get your name on the wall once, twice or as many times as you
like and have your name featured on the Sponsor List!
Companies; You can get your name up too! Or for twice the personal tile rates
you can have details of your company, along with logo and website link featuring
in a pop-up window, you also get your business name and logo featured on the Sponsor
List and your logo displayed either side here on this page! Click
here for more information.
Or Pledge to a tile. Just make a commitment to puchase tiles ($550 minimum), pay a
deposit and then there's nothing more to pay until we actually purchase the land!
2. Tell your friends / send emails with a link to this page to everyone!

McAdam Park, Barrabool, Australia - History

Sporting MCC started way back in 1932. After many years going from venue to venue,
we eventually found our permanent home at McAdam Park, Barrabool.
In 1964 SMCC advertised in the local Geelong Advertiser for a plot of land on which
to hold motorcycle scrambles. Our future patron, Clive McAdam, answered the ad,and
generously offered his land at Barrabool. Hence the chapter of McAdam Park began...
McAdam Park has played host to some of Australia's premier motocross events including;
- Consecutive rounds of the legendary ADB Thumper Nats series from 1996 to 2001.
(Twice winner of best round)
- Host to rounds of the Australian Motocross Championships in 2004, 2006.
- Multiple Victorian and Australian Championships.
- Ride 4 Kids annual charity fundraiser (over $50,000 raised each year)
The Sporting Motorcycle club hosted the Oceania Motocross Championships in November, 2005 and recently in
October 2007.
The OMXC is an international
Trans Tasman challenge contested by teams of Australia and New Zealand's best riders
including riders the calibre of Josh Coppins and Aussie export Brett Metcalfe.
This event alternates between countries, having recently returned to Barrabool in 2007. Check out www.oceaniamx.com to see how we went!
The club is run by a band of dedicated volunteers who make sure that every event
we run is first class. But hey, don't just take our word for it, here's what some
riders had to say, see if you can recognise the names.

"It is one of the best tracks I have ever ridden on.
It was just awesome and easily the equal of any track on the world circuit.. I want
to see this track stay around so don't forget my invite for next time guys!"

"That would have to be the best circuit I have ever ridden on.
